The Diabetic Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan (DARK) have organized multiple events for WDD 2009. As a sign of solidarity in the global struggle against diabetes, the World Diabetes Day logo will be displayed prominently. All 16 regions of the Republic will take part in World Diabetes Day, with 34 monuments to light in blue across the country. The aim is to help provide the information that people living with diabetes need to live long, active and happy lives.
On the 13th and 14th of November, the country will host the 13th International Scientific Practical Conference of new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and its complications. Endorsed by the Ministry of Health, the congress will bring together heads of regional health administrations, endocrinologists from rural areas, therapists and general practitioners. Conferences will also be held in 10 of the country’s regions.
The results of DARK’s painting competition for children will be announced on WDD with the winners invited to take part in new year festivities in the capital, Astana. An award for the best article about diabetes will also be announced. A documentary film created by DARK entitled ‘Attention! Diabetes is close by!’ will be broadcast.
To round off events, on 15 November, the ‘Check Yourself for Diabetes’ campaign will offer free diabetes screening in all provincial capitals.

We will also discuss IDF’s response to the UN Resolution on diabetes and our growing work to address the global health threat of non-communicable diseases.
IDF is proud to be in Canada, the birthplace of insulin. We are honoured that the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health of Canada will attend our Opening Ceremony and that Canada’s Governor General and Prime Minister have sent welcome messages. L’excitation monte à quelques jours du 20ème Congrès Mondial du Diabète. Nous sommes convaincus que notre Congrès est un événement majeur, non seulement pour la Fédération Internationale du Diabète, mais pour toute la communauté mondiale du diabète.
Nous vous avons concocté un excellent programme scientifique comprenant les dernières avancées dans le domaine de la recherche, les directives cliniques, les dernières données de prévalence et le partage du savoir. Nous y débattrons également de la réponse de la FID à la Résolution des Nations Unies sur le diabète et de notre rôle croissant au niveau mondial dans la lutte contre les maladies non-transmissibles.
La FID est fière d’être au Canada, lieu de découverte du rôle de l’insuline. Nous sommes très honorés que la ministre canadienne de la Santé, Leona Aglukkaq, sera présente à notre cérémonie d’ouverture et que le Gouverneur général du Canada ainsi que le Premier Ministre ont envoyé des messages de bienvenue. Nous sommes impatients de vous rencontrer à Montréal. Soyons unis pour le diabète !

La FID et Tourisme Montréal auront un bureau de bienvenue dans le hall des arrivées de l’Aéroport de Montréal pour répondre à vos questions.
Veuillez noter que la FID n’organise pas de transport vers les hôtels depuis l’aéroport. Des taxis et le service de bus de l’aéroport “L’Aérobus” sont à votre disposition à vos frais.
Une fois arrivé au Palais des Congrès, vous pourrez prendre possession de votre badge ainsi que d’un pass de 5 jours valable dans les transports publics de Montréal.
Vous n’êtes toujours pas inscrit ? Si vous désirez participer au Congrès, vous pouvez encore vous inscrire sur place, soit pour toute la durée du Congrès, soit pour un jour. Une visite sur le site du Congrès pourrait vous aider dans vos choix. www.worlddiabetescongress.org

El XX Congreso Mundial de la Diabetes está a la vuelta de la esquina y estamos llenos de entusiasmo. Sabemos que nuestro congreso es un evento muy especial no sólo para la Federación Internacional de Diabetes pero para toda la comunidad de la diabetes en el mundo.
Tenemos preparado un excelente programa científico junto con las últimas novedades en investigación, directrices clínicas, las últimas cifras en prevalencia de la diabetes y el intercambio de las mejores prácticas. También trataremos la respuesta de la FID a la Resolución de Naciones Unidas sobre Diabetes y nuestro creciente trabajo para tratar la amenaza a la salud mundial que representan las enfermedades no transmisibles.
La FID se enorgullece de estar en Canadá, el lugar de nacimiento de la insulina. Es un honor para nosotros que la honorable Leona Aglukkaq, Ministro de Salud de Canadá esté presente en nuestra Ceremonia de Apertura y que el Gobernador General de Canadá y Primer Ministro hayan enviado mensajes de bienvenida. En espera de encontrarnos en Montreal ¡Unidos por la Diabetes!
